Synopsis

In this course, we turn our focus to the activities of the organisation, specifically their financial statements such as balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements. This will give a clearer picture to the investor on its financial and operational health.

Synopsis

While one way you can earn money is by working, investing is another great and smart way to build wealth. However, there is also the potential of losing your money if it is not done wisely. The investment world is not an easy thing to navigate, with many potential factors affecting investment returns in different ways.

This course will go through the topics in a way that is easily understandable, using exercises and case studies to provide working examples. All areas of influence such as the market economy, the business activities and government intervention are covered. We will look into financial ratios, financial statements and so on to help make the best investment decision.

Synopsis

This course introduces the basic types of options and explains how they work, the nomenclature of options as well as the components that make up the value of an option. It also covers the main uses of options, namely for hedging risks and for earning a profit for taking risks. Lastly, it outlines a medley of options with various underlying assets or instruments delves into the Black–Scholes model for the valuation of European options and concomitant risks.

  • (1) Know the similarities and differences between futures and options
    (2) Know that options provide asymmetric risk–reward trade-offs compared to a spot trade or futures contract
    (3) Know how to relate the value of an option to its “time value” and “intrinsic value” components
    (4) Understand that there is a wide variety of choices when it comes to hedging risks
    (5) Know the options linked to stock indices, bonds, interest rates and currencies
    (6) Understand the Black–Scholes model and the notion of implied volatility
    (7) Know the mechanics of an option contract and its P&L computation
