Synopsis

For financial institutions, customer data is one of the most important and valuable assets. However, if misused, it can lead to severe consequences such as identity theft, financial loss, and reputational damage.

The Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) was established to safeguard individuals who share their personal data with organisations, including banks and financial institutions. The PDPA regulates how organisations collect, use, disclose, and secure personal data.

It is essential for financial institutions and their employees to understand and comply with the PDPA. Any breach can result in significant consequences, including financial penalties imposed by the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) and reputational harm.
